From Trekkies to furries, just about every fan group has its own convention in Denver. Now we can add bronies to that diverse group, with the first-ever Running of the Leaves Con. Not familiar with this new star in the ever-growing constellation of fandom? Let the con’s head of cosplay affairs, Lochlan O’Neil, explain. “A brony is basically anybody outside of the target demographic [children] who’s watching My Little Pony: Friendship Is Magic,” she says. “Normally it’s [men], but there are plenty of females, like myself.”

Every brony that makes it out for the con is in for four days of fun activities, including a brony-themed 5K (the titular Running of the Leaves, an important seasonal event in the My Little Pony mythology) and the usual lineup of panels, dances, vendors, art and cosplay — lots and lots of cosplay. “Cosplay is a really big part of the My Little Pony fandom, being able to dress up as all the different ponies. It’s a lot of fun,” O’Neil says.

The con starts at 4 p.m. at the Ramada Plaza at 10 East 120th Avenue in Northglenn, and runs through Sunday. For tickets, $35, and information, including a schedule of events and guests, visit rotlcon.com.
