A pool party with cheap, good beer to benefit charity sounds like a recipe for success — assuming the weather holds out. And Starwood Hotels' Susan Stiff has to believe it will, because the Buck a Beer Cool Pool Party at the Four Points by Sheraton Denver Southeast has come together so serendipitously.

"We were looking for a reason to do a pool party because we have this great pool area," she says. "We'd been talking about it for a year, and this opportunity fell in our lap."

In March, Four Points decided to use specialty beers as one of its key selling points. The company went looking for a spokesman and named Scott Kerkmans, who started DRAFT magazine, the hotel's Chief Beer Officer. Then it just so happened that Kerkmans and the entire American Homebrewers Association were going to stay at the hotel this weekend for their annual conference.

"This one literally fell into place," Stiff says. "We're sold out with the American Homebrewers Association. I've got to believe those guys are fun. That's not going to be a stuffy party."

The fun starts tonight at 5 p.m. at the hotel, 6363 East Hampden Avenue; admission is $5, which includes two beer/food tickets and a $3 donation to Central City Opera's Camerata, the Guild of the Children's Diabetes Foundation, the Denver Art Museum's CultureHaus and the Denver Center for Performing Arts' Marquee Club. Additional beers from Breckenridge, Odell, Flying Dog, New Belgium and Great Divide are $1. For more information, visit www.fourpoints.com.
