The holiday shopping season is is in earnest full gear, but there's more than one way to combat its exhaustive toll. For one, you could turn it into a mini vacation in your own town, a trick that just got easier thanks to a promotion sponsored by the Denver Metro Convention and Visitors Bureau. As part of its Mile High Holidays campaign, 48 participating hotels and inns of all shapes and sizes throughout the city will offer special $52.80 hotel rates for the holidays, allowing you to stay close to the action — but with a free parking space as well as a cheap place to park yourself when your eyes begin to cross and your feet give out. Such a deal!

Of course, you can also step up the luxury if your wallet allows. At the Grand Hyatt, 1750 Welton Street, the price tag for a room is $109, but it includes a handy $10 gift certificate toward a purchase at any Tattered Cover Book Store (the closest branch is at 16th and Wynkoop in LoDo); call 303-295-1234 or go to www.granddenver.hyatt.com. And at the Hyatt Regency Denver, 650 15th Street, room fees start at $89 and include a $20 food and beverage credit good at any of the hotel's eateries.

Sigh…isn't it dreamy? For a list of area hotels and their holiday offers, visit www.milehighholidays.com/hotels.asp.
