Through the Heart

If you’re looking to break free of the dinner-and-a-movie date clichés for Valentine's Day, how about a candlelit evening spent with a murderous lunatic in a bear costume? After all, if you can't charm the pants off your date, why not scare them off? Step into 13th Floor Haunted House's Valentine X, a romantic evening for couples who love blood spatter and mortal terror more than chocolates and champagne, and prepare to spend the night trying to avoid becoming that lunatic's next victim in a narrative-driven haunted house experience like no other.

"[It’s] centered around a story about a character named the Bear Butcher, [who] is a serial killer,” says Kaitlyn Jaffke, spokeswoman for 13th Floor Haunted House. “He’s trying to claim his revenge, and he takes it out on couples each Valentine’s Day. It’s unique and different, sort of a breath of fresh air for February. Our mushy-gushy is a little bit different, I guess.”

Experience it tonight and tomorrow between 7:30 and 10:30 p.m. at the 13th Floor, 4120 Brighton Boulevard. Admission is $25, or $45 for a VIP pass that gets you a reserved time. For tickets and more info, visit
Fri., Feb. 14, 7:30-10:30 p.m.; Sat., Feb. 15, 7:30-10:30 p.m., 2014
