Today at the Boulder International Fringe Festival: August 23

What's hot, and what's not? Check here everyday for a random look at Fringe haps. Find out what's going on after the jump.

Have you ever had the urge to get up on the stage and try your hand at being a Fringe-style artist? If you are one of those "I could do it better" people, it's your lucky day: Prove it when Naropa University's BFA/MFA performance programs host a one-night-only Performance Jam. The event is free in every way, shape and form; billed as a "low-tech playground," it invites participants to join in, onstage or not; show up at 7:30 p.m. at the Naropa Performing Arts Center, 2130 Arapahoe Avenue, Boulder, and mix and mingle as you please. Email [email protected] for a five-minute slot. Tonight's Daily C.R.A.B., Virgin Sacrifice, is designed just for beginners and their friends: Bring a Fringe virgin, offer them up and compete to win Fringe tix. But first, prepare by writing up a couple of sentences recalling your first time; the rest will unfold in the able hands of host Dave Burdick. Admission is free, it all starts at 10 p.m. at Rueben's Burger Bistro, 1800 Broadway in Boulder.
KEEP WESTWORD FREE... Since we started Westword, it has been defined as the free, independent voice of Denver, and we'd like to keep it that way. With local media under siege, it's more important than ever for us to rally support behind funding our local journalism. You can help by participating in our "I Support" program, allowing us to keep offering readers access to our incisive coverage of local news, food and culture with no paywalls.
Susan Froyd started writing for Westword as the "Thrills" editor in 1992 and never quite left the fold. These days she still freelances for the paper in addition to walking her dogs, enjoying cheap ethnic food and reading voraciously. Sometimes she writes poetry.
