Ready to send it off some sick cliffs "thrill of victory and agony of defeat" style?

"Registration is still open for all fields of the Colorado Freeride Championships going down this weekend, February 25-27, 2011 in Snowmass," reports Aspen Skiing Company spokeswoman Meredith McKee. The event is open to male and female skiers and snowboarders over the age of 16; registration is $135 plus a race day lift ticket for non-passholders.

The big mountain extreme skiing and snowboarding competition starts with a qualifying event on the Hanging Valley Headwall on Friday, February 25 (mandatory athlete meeting at the Snowmass Ticket Pavillion at 8:15 a.m.) and moves to the Burn Side Cliffs for Finals on Saturday on runs with names like Rock Island, XXX, and Triple Jump (spectators can catch the Finals action from the deck of Gwyn's High Alpine mid-mountain lodge). There's a cash purse of $7,200 on the line, but this one's mostly about guts and glory.
