With heat waves kicking in across the state, summertime brings many things — morning hikes across the Rocky Mountains, afternoons spent by the pool and evening skies wafting the smell of grilled hot dogs.

On July 4, communities all over Colorado will be celebrating Independence Day. From extravagant float parades to the stunning fireworks shows that will light up the skies across the metro area, those who celebrate already know what the day's activities entail.

For those looking for a different and more meaningful kind of celebration, look no further than Warm Cookies of the Revolution's 2025 In[ter]dependence Day Celebration on July 4 at Huston Lake Park. Since 2012, Warm Cookies, known as the "world's first Civic Health Club," has hosted community events that have made over a million participants exercise their civic knowledge.

This year's federal holiday is not only one that is distinctly unique to those across the country, but one that has been affected by the Trump administration. Interdependence Day celebrates the community at large, how we are all interconnected and a space for anyone who wants to chill out and have a great time with others.

The free, family-friendly event has a plethora of activities and experiences to be had with one another. Starting at 10 a.m., a herbalist walk with magical medicine man Monticue Connally will kick off the uplifting event. Shortly after, games and activities for all ages will keep guests busy and engaged.

Music from DJ STV, Henna from Eyni and Urji, traditional Mixtec Oaxacan cuisine from La Reyna del Sur and a poetic performance by Molina Speaks will bring the community-esque ambiance to the event. Not to mention, artist Jolt from Guerilla Garden will have special artwork that honors local heroes from the Denver-metro area and beyond.

Want to showcase your artistic skills? A low-key chalk art contest will have contestants draw designs that correlate to two categories: "Represent Denver" and "Creative Civic-Mindedness." Winners will receive prizes.

Warm Cookies also invites attendees to bring names of individuals who show the community how compassion and caring for one another keep neighbors connected.

If you join Warm Cookies, make sure to bring a beach towel, park toys and a mindset that will truly exercise your civic brain while having fun with others.

Warm Cookies of The Revolution's 2025 In[ter]dependence Day Celebration runs from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Friday, July 4, at Huston Lake Park, 850 South Bryant Street.
