Number 65: Grilled corn soup from Lola

We’ve seen more than our fair share of citified food snobs — you know, the ones who talk your ear off about returning to champagne wishes and caviar dreams — turn into complete and utter slobberers at the mere mention of the corn soup at Lola. Since its early days on South Pearl Street, in the space that’s now India’s Pearl, some incarnation of Jamey Fader’s corn soup has had its place on the menu. The latest addiction, a grilled corn puree ferocious with the fire of chiles bolstered by streams of chile oil and shavings of green onions, may quite possibly be the best excuse yet to slurp with sheer abandonment.
