As a countdown to the Best of Denver 2010, coming April 1, Cafe Society is serving up a hundred of our favorite dishes in Denver. Send your own nominations to cafe@westword.com.
Number 53: Toro sashimi from Sushi Den
Toro is the best kind of sashimi there is. Not necessarily everyone’s favorite, but the hands-down best nonetheless. It is the most expensive, the most sought-after, the most savored of all the many delights available at the hands of the best sushi chefs.
Sushi Den is the best sushi restaurant in Denver, in Colorado, probably anywhere between the East and West Coasts. It might not be everyone’s favorite, but it is the best there is, crafted across years to be almost singular in its acquisition of the freshest Japanese seafood available and employing some of the greatest rollers and cutters in town.
Thus, what could be better than getting a piece of the best toro sashimi from the best sushi bar in the area? Nothing, that’s what. And yes, the waits can sometimes be terrible and the crowds difficult to deal with, but it’s all worth it when you know what’s waiting for you is one of the best single bites in the entire city.
