For years — YEARS! — I’ve prayed to the Mexican food gods that someone in my Wash Park ‘hood would open a taqueria, or at least a taco joint, saving me from hiking to Federal Boulevard when I want my al pastor fix.

And, now, it looks like I’m finally going to get my wish.

The Local, which resides directly next door to Washington Park Grille — both of which are owned by Jeffrey Jbestey and Greg Sauber — secured its liquor license (not an easy feat in this neighborhood), and then closed a few weeks ago to make way for Agave Taco Bar, which, promises the owners, will “specialize in authentic, fresh homemade tacos, great margs and exceptional salsas.”

Tortillas — both yellow and blue — will be made fresh on a daily basis, the frozen margaritas will benefit from fresh-squeezed citrus juices and the liquor license will also enable the bar to pour beers and shelve an extensive tequila selection.

The space, located at 2217 East Mississippi Avenue, is currently undergoing a makeover, and when it opens later this month, it’ll serve breakfast (including “el rapido” breakfast burritos) Monday through Friday from 9 a.m. to 11 p.m. and Saturday and Sunday from 8 a.m. to noon; lunch and dinner hours are Monday through Thursday, 11 am. to 9 p.m. and 10 p.m. on Friday and Saturday.

Just one word: Ole!
