Just one month after celebrating its two-year anniversary, one of Denver’s best-named — and indeed, longest-named — cafes is closing its doors for good this weekend. Baked Stuffed Bunz on the Run Eatery, located at 1432 East 22nd Avenue, had earned a following for its German meat and veggie-filled pockets, known as runzas.
“I can’t afford to keep it open,” laments owner Carol Schneider. “It’s just not a really great spot. I actually did this for my children, and their lives all changed, and it just didn’t work out.”
Formerly called Runza’s on the Run, the restaurant was forced to change to its current mouthful of a name when a Nebraska sandwich chain, which already uses the word “runza,” complained.
Schneider is resigned to the closure and plans to retire once the cafe is put to bed. “I don’t think people can afford too much anymore,” she explains. “It’s just the way it goes.”
“It was a good ride,” she concludes. “We had fun.”
Baked Stuffed Bunz on the Run Eatery’s last day in business will be this Saturday.
