Bean Fosters, a coffee shop/used bookstore, opened last week in the former home of Read, Write & Brew — which also served coffee and sold books.

“It was a quick transition,” says Truett Mickey, who co-owns the shop at 720 Golden Ridge Road in Golden with his wife, Shana. “I’d been working on a business plan, and the opportunity popped up and we took it. We opened last week, and things have been going well. We hope to become a part of the community here in Golden.”

Bean Fosters serves Novo coffee, and Mickey says he makes sure to order the freshest roast possible. “We want to educate people about the roasting process as well as all the different brewing methods,” he notes.

The shop also sells burritos and pastries, both of which are made locally, but the couple doesn’t plan on expanding the menu at this point. They do plan on extending the hours — Bean Fosters is currently open from 6 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Monday through Friday and 6:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturdays — which are limited due to the fact that Mickey and his wife are the only employees right now.

As for the reading selection, Bean Fosters carries over 9,000 used books, all organized by genre; the shop also welcomes donations.

For more information, call 303-279-5077; watch the Bean Fosters Facebook page for updates on hours of operation.
