Some delicious new beers are floating around out there this week, including Myrcenary double IPA, Odell Brewing’s first new year-round beer since 2007, which you can find at Old Chicago and in liquor stores, and Le Terroir, an elegant but powerful dry-hopped sour ale from New Belgium’s Lips of Faith series.
As for the rest of this week’s beer events, here’s a starter set:
Thursday, March 3
Oskar Blues Homemade Liquids and Solids will tap a five-gallon keg of Pliny the Younger at 6:30 p.m., then again on March 12th at 1 p.m. Get there early for this rare treat.
We’re thankful for you. Are you thankful for us?
We feel thankful for our staff and for the privilege of fulfilling our mission to be an unparalleled source of information and insight in Denver. We’re aiming to raise $50,000 by December 31, so we can continue covering what matters most to this community.
Help us continue giving back to Denver.
Boulder Beer Company gets blue with its Kinda Blue Blueberry Wheat roll-out party from 4 to 7 p.m. They’ll have $2.50 pints of Kinda Blue, the return of the Kinda Blue Balloon Pop, and a chance to win a keg.
Friday, March 4 Hops & Pie hosts its monthly First Firkin Friday to coincide with the Tennyson Street arts and culture district’s First Friday events. This week, it’s pouring Upslope Brewing’s Foreign Stout infused with hand-roasted coffee, cocoa nibs, and roasted poblano and guajillo peppers. The firkin is tapped at 6 p.m.
Aurora’s Dry Dock Brewing will celebrate its weekly Firkin Friday from 3 to 8 p.m. with a cask-conditioned barrel of its frambozen.
Arrgghh, ye scurvy scoundrels! The Wynkoop Brewing Company will break out the barrels of its Skull and Crossbones Black Ale today at the brewery and several of its other establishments in honor of Real Pirates, the Denver Museum of Nature & Science exhibit opening today. The dark-but-hoppy beer uses a new kind of whole-leaf hop, appropriately named El Dorado.
Sunday, March 6
Hops & Pie will tap a keg of Pliny the Younger at 3 p.m.; it will also have Pliny the Elder in bottles and Sanctification on tap.
Tuesday, March 8
In honor of Mardi Gras (which is very late this year), the Wynkoop breaks out Pils Noir, a Czech-style pilsner with a dark, dangerous twist. Dry hopped with whole leaf Saaz hops and jacked up with darker malts, Pils Noir actually looks like a black lager. The Wynkoop also hosts its annual Fat Tuesday parade, which typically runs from the Wazee Supper Club to the Wynkoop. Call 303-297-2700 for details.
