Over the past few years, Boulder’s Pearl Street has added several independent coffee shops — including Atlas Purveyors, Caffè and Ozo — to a strip already stuffed with caffeine stops.
But now one of the area’s older cafes has made an exit.
The Bookend Cafe had served Boulder for past twenty years, doling out cappuccinos and pastries from its spot next to the Boulder Bookstore. But two months ago, the place closed its doors for good.
Owners Philip Shull and Christine Kimura haven’t given up the address, though. “They’ve decided to close and reopen as a higher-end restaurant,” says a neighbor at the Boulder Bookstore.
An employee at Shull’s company, Deneuve Construction, confirms that a new restaurant is in the works but declines to divulge more information.
