Vicente Domingo closed the doors on his young restaurant, Viejo Domingo, in March, saying he was taking a break and that he’d be back in May.
And indeed, there’s activity in that location again — but we’re not entirely sure Domingo is behind it. Caminito Tango Restaurant is taking over the Viejo Domingo address, bringing the city an Argentine empanadas joint.
On first glance, this looks like a conceptual redesign, swapping one type of Argentine fare for another. (Before it was Viejo Domingo, the spot held Playa de Oro.) And we’d have no reason to suspect that Domingo wasn’t the owner, except for this: A worker re-painting the space said that the new restaurant wasn’t under the same ownership as Viejo Domingo. But as for the new proprietor’s name? He had no idea.
Regardless, the new place should open in mid-May. We’ll keep you posted.
