Crimson & Gold just changed hands — but it’s continuing operations. Chris Potter, who’s new to restaurant ownership, has bought the University of Denver spot. He plans to keep the name — and the DU clientele, of course.

The last owners were far from new to the business. Brothers Kevin and Craig Caldwell, who started Brooklyn’s, had taken over the former home of the Aroma Cafe at 2017 South University Boulevard near the end of 2009 — then were denied a liquor license because the spot was within 500 feet of the Ricks Center for Gifted Children at DU. Finally, after months of discussion, Crimson & Gold was granted a liquor license and opened in the fall of 2010.
Mark Valente of Sanborn and Company brokered the transaction — and yes, the deal included that liquor license.
