$20,000

I have never been to a Jack in the Box, but as I was making the descent into Denver this weekend after a jaunt to Vail, I saw one just off Sixth Avenue and Colfax — and I got a sudden urge to go there.

But then I got permanently (thankfully?) sidetracked by a bright-green sign announcing the imminent arrival of Croc Soup Company, which, according to its Facebook page, is a fast-casual spot specializing in scratch-made soups, salads, panini and java. “Salads and panini,” notes the page, “will have an interesting twist to them, with some homemade dressings and fresh baked soft pretzel rolls,” plus, says the owner, the joint is also contemplating smoking some of its own meats.

Jack in the Box had better watch its back.
