No bar in Denver celebrates the good life like the elegant art-deco Cruise Room, located off the lobby of the 111-year-old Oxford Hotel. Opened with much celebration on the day that Prohibition was repealed, this long, narrow lounge is still unmatched for its glowing atmosphere, polished service, comfy leather booths — and thirty-martini roster. One of the best of those martinis, the Fiji Blossom ($7), is made with Vox Vodka, DeKuyper Pineapple Schnapps and guava nectar; it’s served straight up in a crooked-stemmed martini glass, with the sifter on the side. The fruity, tropical drink tastes as good as a glass of fresh-squeezed lemonade sipped on a sunny pool deck — which is convenient, because the Cruise Room is modeled after a cocktail lounge on the swank Queen Mary ocean liner. So slip into one of those booths, order a Fiji Blossom and prepare to be mentally whisked away to the South Pacific. You probably won’t go there alone, either. Fortunately, the well-dressed crowd in the Cruise Room is always discreet. “The Cruise Room is the perfect place to conduct an affair,” says one colleague. Anchors aweigh.
