Dan Landes, owner of WaterCourse Foods (which I review this week) has brewed his share of beer over the years — so to him, beer and vegetarian food have always gone together. But he’s excited to see that the craft-brewing industry is starting to agree. “Maybe when I started, a brewer wouldn’t have wanted to put a porter next to whatever it is,” he says.
But now that’s changed — as evidenced by WaterCourse’s fourth annual beer dinner tomorrow.

For this dinner, executive chef Rachel Kesley selected seven beers from Strange Brewing Company and designed a six-course tasting menu around each one, with the seventh beer as a palate cleanser.
The food is a variation on a Southern picnic, with pairings that include from baked bean pot-au-feu with pickled watermelon paired with watermelon hefeweizen specially made for the event; sweet tea-glazed crispy tofu with a corn and chive waffle and IPAphany India Pale Ale; and apple cobbler with salted caramel ice cream and Cherry Bomb Belgian stout.
The dinner is $70 and seatings start at 5 p.m. on Friday, October 4; to make a reservation, contact WaterCourse at 303-832-7313.
