Blue Pan Pizza opened last night on West 32nd Avenue, filling its twenty-seat dining room with neighborhood pizza lovers looking to try the Detroit-style pies that owner/chef Jeff Smokevitch has already popularized at his Telluride pizzeria, Brown Dog. Takeout orders also kept the kitchen busy in the new space across the street from fine-dining hotspot Solitaire.
In addition to the square Detroit pizzas, the menu offers 13-inch classic Italian, 16-inch Chicago cracker-thin, and slices of New York-style pizza. Both the Detroit and classic Italian are available with gluten-free crust. Appetizers include meatballs, a charcuterie plate, lemon-rosemary chicken wings and a Caprese with fior di latte and fresh mozzarella. Beer, wine and a selection of cocktails are also available. Blue Pan is open from 4 p.m. to 10 p.m. daily for now but will soon be adding lunch hours. Here’s a look at opening night at Blue Pan Pizza:
