Rhein Haus opened at 1415 Market Street in LoDo last night, bringing German beer-hall cheer by way of Seattle, where the original Rhein Haus is located. The shrine to sausage took over the space vacated by Old Chicago in March 2014, adding second floor space that was last used as an art gallery in the 1980s.
Along with a long list of German and American craft lagers, about a dozen kinds of wurst and a whole smörgåsbord of other hearty fare, Rhein Haus offers indoor bocce ball upstairs and downstairs. The 14,000-square-foot space is decked out in Teutonic charm, with dark woods, hunting trophies and massive hearths.
Rhein Haus is open Monday to Friday from 4 p.m. to 2 a.m., Saturday from noon to 2 a.m. and Sunday from 10 a.m. to 2 a.m., including brunch. Happy hour is served weekdays from 4 to 6 p.m. and weekends from 3 to 6 p.m. Photographer Brandon Marshall stopped in to capture the Bavarian beauty of the space, along with a few swine-based dishes.
