Gordo’s, that longstanding Mexican joint that stood over Sixth Avenue at Sheridan for decades, recently closed up that location and started serving at a new spot — with a new name.The 44th Avenue Grill, at 44th and Wadsworth in Lakewood, is acting as a satellite location of Gordo’s — serving Gordo’s food and retaining the old staff — while the old location is prepped for demolition. It will ultimately be rebuilt as a new, improved Gordo’s.
The new, not-quite Gordo’s, which is housed in what used to be Vern’s Restaurant & Lounge, is open from 11 a.m. to 9 p.m. Sunday through Thursday and from 11 a.m. to 10 p.m. Saturday and Sunday. For more information, call 303-421-4544.
