I hate windows during the summer.

I hate them because when I’m at work, I can see the sky and the sun and the birds and all the people who aren’t at work strolling merrily by. Thankfully, I don’t work near Coors Field anymore, because the smell of food and the thought of baseball and the promise of cold strong beer would make it almost impossible for me to do my job.

Still, I’m angry at Great Divide Brewing Company, which not only makes some of the best beer in this state, but has now added a patio to its Tap Room (2201 Arapahoe Street, 303-296-9460 ext. 26) where you can sit outside and enjoy all that sun and beer before or after, or even during, Rockies games.

Even worse, the brewery plans to tap three brand-new, delicious-sounding Spring-season beers on Friday.

Saison is a Belgian-style wheat beer that the brewery says will be “fruity and slightly tart, with a dry finish that makes it both complex and refreshing.” It will be available in 22-ounce bomber bottles and on draft until June 1.

Dunkel Weiss, a dark wheat ale, is Great Divide’s first German-style beer, with notes of banana. And Belgica will be a Belgian-style India pale ale (not a phrase I’ve heard a lot), combining Belgian pilsner malt with mighty American hops. The brewery says this “utterly unique creation” will be available in six-packs and on draft from May through August.

And all three beers will serve to tantalize me until I can blow off my work assignments and get my butt into a seat on Great Divide’s new patio.
