Yes, you heard right: This is National Bean Day, an unofficial but dedicated span of 24 hours to all things bean.
While an odd website that celebrates these hallmarks of food does not specify what type of bean, we suggest the following culinary regimen to celebrate the bean here in Denver, today or any day.
Breakfast: Masterpiece Delicatessen. While no bean-specific item exists on the breakfast menu, Masterpiece does serve Colorado’s own Novo coffee. Enjoy a tall latte made with Novo beans and a bagel sandwich (the Taylor pork roll is especially tasty).
Lunch: Squeaky Bean: Here you get a two-fer. Saddle up to the lovely bar at the Bean and order a salad by its namesake, “The Bean.” Green beans, pancetta and almonds abound in this delicious midday satisfier.
Will you step up to support Westword this year?
At Westword, we’re small and scrappy — and we make the most of every dollar from our supporters. Right now, we’re $20,000 away from reaching our December 31 goal of $50,000. If you’ve ever learned something new, stayed informed, or felt more connected because of Westword, now’s the time to give back.
Dinner: Fruition. Chef Alex Seidel must love beans. There is rarely a dish, especially in the winter season, that doesn’t contain some form of legume. Rumor has it that right now the dinner menu includes a Colorado Lamb strip loin with a roasted pepper and white bean minestrone. And always keep an eye out for any form of cassoulet prepared by chef Seidel. It’s worth a weekly call to the restaurant.
