El Gordo Loco was the first victim of our Best of Denver curse, shuttering just a few days after we bestowed it with the Best Breakfast Under $2 award. But the building won’t stay empty for long: the house is getting a remodel and will reopen as Nanna’s Teas.

This location is the second outpost of the Park Hill-based shop owned by Karen Renz, and she says the Highland address will sell loose and bulk teas to the neighborhood, just like the flagship.

But there’s more: “We’re expanding into a full restaurant as well,” she notes, adding that Nanna’s will also offer breakfast, lunch and afternoon tea in a small dining room.

Renz says the place should open sometime during the first couple of weeks of June, “Probably the 6th, if all works out well.”
