For decades, the Sidewinder was a down-and-dirty Globeville dive. But a month ago a group of local musicians, including Fez Garcia (with some help from his folks), took over the spot just around the corner from Crash 45 and gave the bar a bit more hipster cred. Garcia says they’re trying to recapture the vibe of the now-defunct Gabor’s in Capitol Hill: laidback, unpretentious, and really cozy. The jukebox is now filled with lots of local bands, as well as mix CDs brought in by patrons.

In the near future, Garcia promises, they’ll have a kitchen up and running, and the adjoining event hall, which had been used for wedding receptions and birthday parties, will become a music venue that will host local and national acts.
We’ll drink to that! Keep reading to see more photos of the resurrected Sidewinder.
