Over the weekend, I settled into my usual routine of eating — only on Sunday, this entailed stuffing (and stupefying) my belly with dishes from more than twenty restaurants hawking their grub at the Cherry Creek Arts Festival, where I was a culinary judge alongside SAME Cafe‘s Brad and Libby Birky and Mark Gordon, pie king of Z Pizza in Greenwood Village.
The diversity of restaurants turning out for this year’s festival was much better than in years past, with a formidable showing of ethnic joints, including Carniceria Y Taqueria La Hacienda (officially at 4360 East Evans Avenue) and Savory Saigon, whose terrific Vietnamese cuisine is often peddled at the Boulder farmers’ market. And, in fact, it was the carne asada soft corn tacos from La Hacienda and the beautifully fresh Vietnamese egg rolls from Savory Saigon that secured top honors from the judges.
