This past weekend, Pueblo hosted its 21st annual Chiles and Frijoles Festival, which celebrates the bounty of Colorado’s farms — and the great chiles grown there. Farmers brought in Pueblo, or Mirasol, chiles; Anaheims and Big Jims; scorching Dynamite and lesser-known varieties like Mosco and Marconi — and there wasn’t a Hatch chile in sight. Or even a fake Hatch chile, since China is now exporting its own version. Says Martin:
Yeah, sparkling wine is fine — but only champagne is made in France. Get those fake green chiles outta here!
Where do you get your green chiles? How do you think Pueblo compares to Hatch?
Will you step up to support Westword this year?
At Westword, we’re small and scrappy — and we make the most of every dollar from our supporters. Right now, we’re $22,000 away from reaching our December 31 goal of $50,000. If you’ve ever learned something new, stayed informed, or felt more connected because of Westword, now’s the time to give back.
