A reader shot us an e-mail earlier today, posing a food-related question to “Ask a Mexican” columnist Gustavo Arellano:
I absolutely love flour tortillas made with lard, but I have not been able to find a place that sells them in Denver. Everyone seems to think that vegetable shortening will do just fine, thank you very much, but they are mistaken! A few years ago I asked the Westword food writer if he knew where to find them, and he said sorry, he didn’t know. Can they be found in Denver? I live downtown, but I would gladly drive great distances to get my hands on a stack of delicious, giant, magical tortillas. Please tell me I don’t have to drive to Phoenix to get them!Thank you for your help, Madly-in-Love Tortilla Lover
We unleashed the question into the Twittersphere and received a few tweets in return, suggesting that Madly-in-Love Tortilla Lover check out the following:
That’s a start. Where else can our reader get her flour tortilla lard-on? Leave your suggestions in the comments section.
Will you step up to support Westword this year?
We’re aiming to raise $50,000 by December 31, so we can continue covering what matters most to this community. If Westword matters to you, please take action and contribute today, so when news happens, our reporters can be there.
