Five Points is changing, and people are definitely divided over whether the changes are good or bad….or a combo of both. The news that John Fayman will open Goed Zuur, a taproom devoted to wild and sour beers, at 2801 Welton Street this spring brought a slew of responses. Says David:
I love sour beers but I hope with all this “high end” development on Welton there are a few “low end” places I can get a burger and beer for under 15 bucks and catch a Broncos game. I mean, is that too much to ask for? When did Five Points turn into the OC?

Then there’s this from Cheresa:
It’s a sad day when Five points is prime Denver property. Why can’t stuff be left alone? The people living over there were perfectly fine without gentrification.
But others like the changes. Says Paige:
Wow, they’ve done a great job restoring the exterior! More developers need to do this instead of tearing everything down.

RTD ran the light rail into Five Points and everyone thought they were crazy, but sure enough over time crime decreased, people invested in capital improvements, and more people moved in. Property owners made a good return on their investments, more people moved in. Restaurants started moving into vacant buildings (the Rosenberg’s building set empty for like twenty years?). This is what people wanted. This is the progress people envisioned tweny years ago when they ran light rail into that part of town. Congrats. It succeeded.
