Tennyson vs. Lower Highland: The Street 16 final four!

Lower Highland solidly won against Capitol Hill in the round of 8 in our restaurant neighborhood tournament, and Tennyson squeaked by the favorited Upper Larimer, due to some serious campaigning on social media.

The Berkeley neighborhood is one of the town’s hottest residential markets these days, and the short commercial strip along Tennyson Street is one of its biggest draws. The tidy bungalows and Victorian homes in this northwest Denver ‘hood are just a brief walk (and you’ll want to walk, because parking is tough to come by) from an incredible array of restaurants, everything from Axios Estiatorio to Big Hoss Bar-B-Q to Parisi Italian Market & Deli to DJ’s Berkeley Cafe to the Cozy Cottage to Empanada Grill.

And now, this defense of LoHi:

Just a few years ago, there was little reason to venture into Lower Highland unless you were after Mexican fare at Patzcuaro or a canoli from Lechuga’s, Denver mainstays that reflect different eras. But soon after Lola took up residence on the corner of 16th and Boulder and the neighborhood adopted the LoHi nickname, the area exploded with eateries: Duo, Z Cuisine, Masterpiece Deli, the Wooden Spoon Bakery, Highland Tap & Burger, Root Down, Linger, the Ale House at Amato’s and Williams & Graham among them. And there’s no end in sight: Pastry pro Yasmin Lozada-Hissom will soon open a dessert spot on West 32nd Avenue, and Central Bistro and Bar will slide in next to the Ale House.
