The Village at Edgewater, a “soft-play cafe” near Sloan’s Lake, quietly closed earlier this month, leaving behind a voice message thanking customers for the “pleasure” of serving them.
The kid-friendly restaurant and community center had opened last year with a professed goal to “entertain, educate and empower parents and their children” by offering family-focused classes and activities, along with a 1,500 square-foot playground and a full-scale restaurant run by former Rialto Cafe chef Mike Schock; featuring healthy food and, strangely, booze.
The Village was the brainchild of Jaine Murphy, founder of the playgroup Moms and Tots San Diego and a member of the Highlands Mommies, a large group of mothers cum community activists who live in northwest Denver.
This powerful organization of mommies openly supports many local businesses via an online forum — but apparently they couldn’t cradle this particular one.
