Denver’s street-food scene is exploding, what with all those cupcake trucks, biscuit-mobiles, gastro-carts on wheels and upscale taco wagons hawking their foodstuffs all over town. And the trend hasn’t gone unnoticed by the Denver Public Library’s free Fresh City Life programs, which integrates culinary demonstrations, recipe contests and other food-centric experiences into its lineup of educational, inspirational and just plain fun programming. Throughout the month of July, when Denver is celebrating the Biennial of the Americas, chefs Jessica Gaydos and Shellie Clark plan to take their favorite foods from Peru, Mexico and Brazil to the streets.

The first food demo, focusing on Cusco, Peru, launches tomorrow, July 10 with a class devoted to the country’s chile peppers, fresh fruits, quinoa and potatoes; Lima, Peru, follows on Saturday, July 17; the street foods of Brazil demo takes place on July 24 and Mexican street food gets its due on July 31. All of the cooking demonstrations, which include recipes and samples, run from 10:30 a.m. to noon at the Central Library’s Level B2 Conference Center, 10 West 14th Avenue Parkway.
