Wee Katie’s, the Irish pub from the owners of the massive 16th Street Mall boozer, Katie Mullen’s, opened yesterday in the Highland location that was once home to the divey Rockstar Bar. A two-year transformation turned the humble stucco shack into a gleaming new space with rich wood and leather finishes, cozy booths and a well-stocked bar. Both bars are named for co-owner Paul Maye’s maternal grandmother.
The menu, trimmed down from the list of eats at the original Katie’s, features pub favorites and specialties from Katie’s, including Katie’s Seafood chowder, a Reuben sandwich made with Wagyu corned beef braised in Guinness, and a traditional carrot-parsnip mash.
Wee Katie’s is open daily from 11 a.m. and is planning a grand opening party that will coincide with Saint Patrick’s Day. We stopped by for a look at the wee bar (actually, there are two bars in the spot), and snapped these photos.
