That means the meatballs we know and love, this time snuggled on ciabatta in the best […]
Since Abejas opened in downtown Golden in 2015, the intimate eatery has become a standout for fine dining in the western suburbs. The name is Spanish for “bees,” after founders Brandon Bortles and Barry Dobesh, who were called “the Bs” by their friends – and it’s still buzz-worthy, thanks to its eclectic, seasonal roster of […]
Justin Cucci has already experienced wild success with Linger and Root Down, and Ophelia’s Electric Soapbox, which opened in April 2015 in the Ballpark neighborhood, is even more ambitious. Cucci calls the space a “gastro-brothel,” since it occupies the ground floor and basement of the Airedale building, which has been a bordello, flophouse and peep-show […]
Most Denverites think steak – expensive steak – when they hear the name Del Frisco’s. But the new Del Frisco’s Grille, which opened in late 2015 in Cherry Creek, only has three cuts of prime beef on the dinner menu: a filet, a New York strip and a ribeye. The rest of the menu is […]
Just off Larimer Street, Nocturne continues the jazz tradition of the neighborhood with its Art Deco-style bar, classic cocktails and stage-side dining room. This swanky spot is the perfect place to celebrate an anniversary or any other occasion that warrants a little extra something special, but you can also just stop by for some tunes […]
When the Nickel opened mid-summer 2014 in the Hotel Teatro, it had a big void to fill, created when Prima and Restaurant Kevin Taylor closed to make way for a complete remodel of the hotel’s ground floor. With only one restaurant to serve the hotel and its guests as well as hungry theater-goers and Denverites […]
After winning Top Chef in 2009, chef Hosea Rosenberg launched a food truck and catering company before opening Blackbelly in 2014. Now he’s expanded the business even more, creating what the team calls a “culinary campus” complete with an upscale dining area, private dining room, two patios, and a market that showcases its in-house butchering, […]
The concept for Alex Seidel’s second restaurant was as grand and ambitious as that of Union Station itself, where Mercantile launched in the summer of 2014. The refurbished train station showed off vaulted ceilings, gleaming marble, dark woods and a variety of new bars and restaurants that fit nearly every traveler’s needs. Likewise, Mercantile offered […]
After a major overhaul of the two conjoined Victorian houses that had housed Highland’s Garden Cafe for nearly twenty years, Solitaire opened in April 2015 with a brand-new enclosed wraparound porch and brighter, airier dining rooms. There’s also a full bar and an impressive fire pit in the spruced-up front garden. Mark Ferguson (who owns […]
Cutting it close is the way to go when traveling by air; time wasted while wedged into an uncomfortable airport chair is time you’ll never get back – unless you choose to while away your extra travel time at Elway’s. If it’s your first day on vacation, you won’t mind splurging on steak and eggs, […]
Over the past few years, Denver International Airport has worked hard to make sure that travelers can get a true taste of the city. And their efforts paid off in 2013 when several excellent hometown restaurants opened at DIA. The best of them? Root Down, which not only offers many of the “field-to-fork” menu items […]
Bramble & Hare opened in 2012 with the aim of being a more accessible lunch-and-dinner version of its older sibling, Black Cat Bistro (which is located next door). While it has since dispensed with lunch service, it remains true to its original vision of offering a prix fixe menu that changes daily based on the […]
Central Bistro & Bar owner Isiah Salazar and chef Jesse Vega converted their breezy bistro into a pan-Latin lounge in the summer of 2017, compiling a roster of tacos from Salazar’s upbringing and Puerto Rican specialties from Vega’s family, along with a few other dishes from Central and South America. The result is a restaurant […]
The original outpost of the Kitchen opened in Boulder in 2004; a second was added on the corner of Wazee Street and the 16th Street Mall in Denver in 2012. Now, the Denver outpost is one of the few remaining locally owned options on the Mall, and it continues to serve an impressive menu of […]
ND Streetbar (formerly the Kitchen Next Door and then Next Door American Eatery) is a casual offshoot of the Kitchen, the high-end, community-oriented bistro founded in Boulder over a decade ago. There are now three outposts in Boulder, Denver’s Union Station and the Central Park neighborhood. All are hip, community-oriented and casual, with an emphasis […]
Sean Kenyon’s LoHi speakeasy, which opened in 2011, is the OG of Denver’s cocktail scene and remains at the top of the game today. To enter the bar, you go through a bookcase, which you can only access when there’s a seat for you and your party inside. That means no crowding or people trying […]
The original Punch Bowl Social opened on Broadway in 2012 as a premier fun zone for adults. The newer Stapleton location, at 3120 Uinta Street, continues the tradition in a breathtaking space built into the former airport’s control tower. Bowling, karaoke, vintage video games and shuffleboard are just a few of the diversions, but both […]
Bryan Dayton and Steve Redzikowski opened Oak at Fourteenth in 2011 and almost immediately suffered a three-month closure because of a fire. Located in the former Tom’s Tavern space, the iconic Boulder burger joint and bar that occupied the corner at 1047 Pearl Street for fifty years, Salt is chef/owner Bradford Heap’s “Johnny Local” bistro, a pasture-to-plate restaurant that utilizes the bounty from local purveyors. In his exhibition kitchen, Heap turns out flat breads, roasted vegetables and […]
DIY decor with industrial elements and roll-up garage windows have become the norm in Denver restaurants, but it was awe-inspiring and new, as was the menu, when chef/restaurateur Justin Cucci opened Root Down in an old garage in 2009. Bold mashups of international influences, along with a commitment to pleasing vegan, vegetarian and gluten-free customers, […]
