Senate Bill 25-076, introduced January 22, would prohibit dispensary customers under the age of 26 from buying certain products. It would also add more labeling and potency requirements to products at dispensaries and mandate that "inhaled marijuana" be limited by weight. Psilocybin extracts and edibles would be prohibited from Colorado's regulated psychedelic spaces; the state just started accepting healing center and related applications less than a month ago.
The legislation is pushed by a group that lobbies for youth protection, often against legal cannabis and psychedelics, and it mirrors many of the organization's requests from previous rulemaking periods. But judging from comments posted on Westword's Instagram, it does not mirror the feelings of consumers. Says Jacki:
“Oh, good, more government oversight” said no one ever.Adds Amber:
Sorry. Colorado isn’t going backward.Suggests Nik:
How about controlling the fentanyl epidemic instead?Offers Alyssa:
They should be doing this with alcohol instead.Responds Collie:
Yet Colorado celebrates alcohol like a CU frat boy on a Thursday nite, who most likely is under investigation for SA. Way to go, y'all.Adds Brieanna:
Youth? Bruh. Eighteen+ is a legal adult and y'all are trying to tell people between 18-26 they can't consume something? But they're turning their heads to all the kids with vodka in their water bottles at school.Notes Ich:
Colorado is way behind in terms of legal consumption. In Michigan, the dispensary sets up at concerts, sporting events etc. The group lobbying this should police the parents that can't parent.Concludes Zack:
People will get what they want somehow. Laws like this just make it dangerous to do so.What do you think of the proposed law? The current state of marijuana in Colorado? Post a comment or share your thoughts at [email protected].
