If all you know about Amanda Blank comes from her guest spots with Spank Rock, you’re hardly prepared for everything she can do. On her debut album, I Love You, the multi-talented diva forges hip-hop, electro and punk into a dance-friendly amalgam while literally invoking R.E.M. and Romeo Void, among others. Blank is a pop-culture creation of her own device, with a talent for turning trash into treasure — and cash. The record is filled with cheeky swagger, winking innuendo and a crateful of dance-floor-packing beats. Of course, a huge part of what makes it so damned irresistible is the production from Diplo and Switch. We’ll just have to see if Blank can turn all of her candy-coated tricks as successfully in a live setting.
Will you step up to support Westword this year?
At Westword, we’re small and scrappy — and we make the most of every dollar from our supporters. Right now, we’re $21,500 away from reaching our December 31 goal of $50,000. If you’ve ever learned something new, stayed informed, or felt more connected because of Westword, now’s the time to give back.
