Andy C.
has been a pioneer of the jungle/drum-and-bass sound since the beginning of its evolution from the early-’90s hardcore techno/breaks scene in his native U.K. As a teenager, he co-founded Ram Records in 1992 with Ant Miles and released a series of influential cuts, including the mega-anthem “Valley of the Shadows,” a track that has subsequently ascended to legendary status, having been remixed and re-released numerous times. Songs such as that one have marked C as one of the top jungle producers in the business, and he’s no slouch on the decks, either. His Nightlife series of mix discs have been well received by fans, and he’s made the DJ magazine Top 100 DJs list several years running, peaking at number 28 in 2006. C frequently mixes on three turntables and is known for marathon sets of hot, unreleased tunes and old favorites that feature the kind of gnarly bass lines, inhumanly paced breakbeats and dark ambience that typify the genre. He’s slated to play an extended set at Vinyl this Friday, August 31, so come early and plan to stay late.
