Born And Raised is Mayer's third number-one album, joining 2003's Heavier Things and 2009's Battle Studies. It's followed by Adele's 21 and Carrie Underwood's Blown Away at numbers two and three, respectively. These albums' positions haven't shifted since last week.
This week's highest debut comes from Slash's Apocalyptic Love, at number four. One Direction follows at number five with Up All Night, making a five-spot leap from last week. Lionel Richie's Tuskegee similarly makes big strides, moving three spots to number six. MercyMe lands at number seven with The Hurt & the Healer, its second top-ten album since forming in 1994. Sara Bareilles comes in at number eight with her five-song EP Once Upon Another Time, followed by Now 42 and Norah Jones' Little Broken Hearts and numbers nine and ten.
Only a week after being crowned the American Idol season 11 champion, Phillip Phillips' first album, Journey To The Finale, a studio collection of songs he performed throughout the season, fatedly enters the chart at number eleven. Phillips sold only 2,000 more units than another Idol alum, Lambert, one spot lower on the chart.
Phillips is enjoying success on the Billboard Hot 100 singles chart, too, with his debut single, "Home," charting at number ten. However, "Home" doesn't compare whatsoever to Gotye's "Somebody That I Used to Know," which is now 2012's longest-running number-one song by remaining for a seventh week at number one, beating fun.'s "We Are Young" by a mere week.
The rest of the Hot 100 top nine remain in the same positions as last week, too. Carly Rae Jepsen is still waiting for that number-one song, holding at number two again with "Call Me Maybe." "Payphone" by Maroon 5, featuring Wiz Khalifa sits at number three, followed by fun.'s "We Are Young," Nicki Minaj's "Starships," Flo Rida's "Wild Ones," One Direction's "What Make You Beautiful," The Wanted's "Glad You Came" and Justin Bieber's "Boyfriend" at numbers three through nine, respectively.
Edward Sharpe and the Magnetic Zeros and the Scissor Sisters both released big albums this week -- and Azaelia Banks dropped 1991, a much-anticipated EP. However, John Mayer could very well block any of these three from the top, no matter how deserving, thanks to his loyal fans. Yet, given the little promotion he's completed because of his throat condition, granuloma, it's no guarantee.
