As America's original junglist, AK1200 practically delivered drum and bass from the womb. A breakbeat pioneer since the'80s, the Orlando-based DJ has brought Yankee D&B up to par with the sounds that cycle in international scenes. Packed with rave hooks and finessed melodies that gild the groove, his first studio album, Shoot to Kill, was recorded with help from friends such as Junior Reid and Phife Dawg. Promoting the new CD, AK1200 spins at Vinyl on Saturday, October 5. Heads and fun-seekers alike should be forewarned: This boy's not shooting blanks.
