You don’t need a translator to enjoy the work of DJ Kahlil, but to fully appreciate his performances, you might want to brush up on your Spanish. Calling Los Angeles his home, the Latin spinmaster works as a DJ on two of that city’s Spanish-language radio stations during the week. But the nightlife beckons every weekend: Mating American and Latin pop, merengue, electronica and rock with his own stylized beats, he’s shaped a new, globally tinged form of house music. Kahlil’s found a second home in Denver, where he appears before a refreshingly mixed crowd once a month. On Saturday, January 25, he’ll celebrate his 26th year with Kahlil’s Birthday Bash at the Gothic Theatre. Surprise guests and prizes will help usher in a celebratory vibe. Don’t forget to stop by the DJ booth to wish Kahlil “Feliz cumpleaños.”
