With his alias “The White Shadow,” DJ Bedz could be Denver hip-hop’s superhero, on a mission to proliferate the somewhat misundastood genre. With residencies at four area clubs, the Occidental College-educated mixmaster proves that white men can rap without straying too far toward either Eminem or Vanilla Ice territory. The DJ’s profile has been raised significantly since his early days at Decades; artofthemix.com recently said his “scratching is outstanding” in a review of his Mix #13 release. Mating tongue-in-cheek lyrics with dance-floor-filling rhythms, Bedz (aka Cassidy Bednark) takes the best of the East and West coasts, sprinkles in some old-school flair and creates music that appeals to aficionados and amateurs alike. Catch the White Shadow on Wednesdays at Silverado, Thursdays at Club Purple, Fridays at the Players Club or Saturdays at 60 South.
