Club Scout

If good things really do come in small packages, then it's no surprise that DJ Micro's offerings are considered the best of the lot. Born Michael Marsicano, the Long Island native has been helping give East Coast music fans a buzz since 1992. One of the original residents of the dance hot spot Caffeine, Micro weathered that club's closing by helping form the Caffeine imprint (which later evolved into a clothing line and film-production company). Somehow he crams a role as active A&R scout for the label into his whirligig travel and production schedules -- not to mention the time spent putting out various releases and mixes of his own. And Micro doesn't show signs of slowing down anytime soon. His new twelve-inch is called "Penetrate," and it's easy to see why: Micro's beats, a flawless mix of trance and breakbeats honed to the sharpest edge, are guaranteed to pierce the most jaded floors. Banging acid twists, progressive grooves and a needle-toothed bite give his collections a distinct mark. The mix maestro puts Avalon crowds under the knife this Saturday, April 17, for a little musical Micro-surgery.
