Since leaving its spot at 7 South Broadway in November 2003 and heading downtown, Quixote's has faced numerous challenges, and it had to abort its scheduled debut in October last year. In the meantime, Cervantes' took over for both venues -- and now owner Jay Bianchi is eager to have Quixote's develop its own identity. Although he has big ideas, his main focus remains providing a place where people can come and enjoy themselves every day. That's one of the reasons he's keeping the venue smoke-free.
Kevin Henderson, formerly of 3 Deep Productions, has put together a new night at Lotus (1701 Wynkoop Street) dubbed Club Cranberry's. It debuts on Friday, April 22, with a performance by Kid Capri, who'll be part of a rotating cast of DJs that includes resident jock DJ Quote.
Henderson parted ways with 3 Deep a few weeks ago, and Cranberry's is the first endeavor of his new company, KevinKain Entertainment. "It wasn't nearly the drama that everyone thinks it is," Henderson says of the split. "Everybody bumps heads at some point, especially partners, and my focus had changed. This is a better move for my family, and it was just time to go. I want to focus on the clubs and let people have fun, but I wish 3 Deep all the best."
Taking his inspiration from Miami's hip-hop club scene, Henderson says he wants to merge upscale nightlife with hip-hop culture to create a sexy, classy urban environment that's welcoming to everybody, regardless of race. "Clubs aren't about the club, or the music," he points out. "It's about the people, getting new people together, meeting new people."
Henderson says he'll also be working with Lotus Entertainment to produce events at Lotus's sister clubs: Mynt, Monarck and Blue 67.
