Crank Sturgeon sounds like one of those band names that came out of a classic episode of Monty Python’s Flying Circus. But this act isn’t really a band at all. It’s a guy who wears a fish-like costume with contact microphones hidden (or not so hidden) all over. When he hits parts of his body or screams into those microphones, he creates a cacophanous sound that might be abrasive to the ears if his performance wasn’t so genuinely entertaining as he removes parts of his costume to reveal its different layers. If you’re expecting something strictly musical, forget it. But if you go expecting to see a truly creative spectacle, prepare to be delighted by Crank Sturgeon’s seemingly endless bag of tricks.
