Maybe Brian Knab, Brandon Roth and Ryan Murphy wanted to be Laymen Terms back in their days living in Monument and failed at it miserably. But when the trio reconfigured in Denver with bassist Jeff Wiencroft and fused punk-rock spiritedness with a full-bodied, almost orchestral aesthetic, The Still City was born. The band’s raw exuberance is a rarity in music so inherently introspective; in fact, the Still City is closer in tone to another Colorado Springs outfit of yesteryear, Against Tomorrow’s Sky. With a handful of releases, official and otherwise, the Still City proved to be a hit with fans and critics alike. But Knab is entering a Ph.D. program in Austin, and the band will come to an end with a show this Saturday, August 13, at the hi-dive, where the guys will also celebrate the release of their final EP.
