Everything about Dang! screams “bar band,” from the ridiculous name and cheesy CD graphics to the generic hard rock/blues boogie style and instantly forgettable tunes. That’s not to say that you wouldn’t enjoy a Dang! set if you happened upon it during an epic dive-bar bender; it might be just the thing to get rowdy to after a half-dozen Jameson shots. But on CD, at home, the material is just not that interesting. You get four songs of unimaginative, upbeat bar-band boogie. Then you have your boring and ponderous hard rock in “Blood on the Mountain.” And for variety, you get the annoying themed novelty songs “Harvey the Viking,” which works a kind of nautical/pirate groove, and “Calf Rope,” a halfhearted attempt at cow punk.
