$20,000

Every now and then, an album is released that is so bizarre, you have to seriously wonder if it’s real or a joke. The jury’s still out on Pyramids, Delux’s latest offering, but the latter seems the more likely bet. Pyramids finds Delux in the midst of churning out a confounding, robotic mess of beats and words. The entire record sounds like the lyrics are being spat through a megaphone, which doesn’t do much to bolster hackneyed lines like “I’ve been sticking to this grind like Elmer’s glue,” from “Encore.” At times, this Boulder MC is on the beat and in the pocket; at others, his flow wanders off in an abyss of meaningless sounds and confusing concepts. If you manage to make it through all thirteen tracks contained here, a pat on the back is well earned. Yikes.
