"I'm super excited and happy about it," says Johnson, an independent promoter who also owns Phoenix Tattoo Company. "I've been trying to do this for a long time, and I think it just makes it easier for me now to focus on getting really rad bands that people want to see instead of having to worry about running around to find a venue. This is going to make everything easier. Now I can bring all of my people into it instead of just, you know, EDM and stuff."
In their comments on the Westword Facebook page, readers welcome the change and new focus. Says Matt:
Punk is alive and well and we need it now more than ever!!Adds Tony:
Yes! I'd love to see some throwback pop punk and emo-themed nights...those are always a blast!Counters JoDi:
No pop punk. We want real punk!!! Misfits and social d!!!!!!Recalls Nick:
Played this venue three times, for free twice, and got $11 one time. Maybe the new owners can afford $12 for bands.Advises James:
Stop the pay-to-play model or at least give a minimum pay with door over a certain amount. Bands def need to have some skin in the game, but it's also not their responsibility if you don't have a regular crowd. If the band can't draw, then they can't come back. It's a very tough situation for the venues and the bands. Hopefully they can balance it out.Suggests Jason:
Hopefully, she will address the chronic electric buzz in that room. Every show I have seen there has the same issue - very loud electrical buzz going the entire time like the whole system is ungrounded.Begs Damian:
Please, please please change the terrible name!Responds Maurica:
I hope they don’t, 'cause I haven’t had the chance to tell someone “At Your Mom's House” when they ask me where I’m at.When were you last at Your Mom's House? What do you think of the name? The music? Post a comment or share your thoughts at [email protected].
