The Five Points Jazz Festival is officially part of the past, having been replaced by a grants program. And while nothing can take the place that annual, free jamboree had in our hearts, there is still a new jazz experience to look forward to: the inaugural Denver Jazz Fest, which will take place in venues around the city and Boulder from April 3 to 6.

As part of the festivities, Union Station will host a concert on Saturday, April 5, following a piano showcase on Friday, April 4, with Tanner Palmer that will kick off a free, weekly series in the Great Hall. The Denver Jazz Fest concert at Union Station will showcase a talented local trio of Daryl Gott on sax, Tom Amend on piano and Mark Simon on bass, from 5 to 7 p.m.

After that, the free weekly series will continue on Fridays from 6 to 9 p.m., when Colorado pianists will inject a bit of relaxation into the otherwise bustling station at the new baby grand piano. After Palmer's performance, Nova will perform on Friday, April 11; Beau Brant on Friday, April 18; and Stu MacAskie on Friday, April 25.
